McIntosh MC901 Dual Mono Amplifier

The MC901 is McIntosh's new monoblock amplifier that combines a vacuum tube and a solid-state amplifier on one chassis, designed for bi-amping high-performance speakers.

Featuring an updated design, the MC901 includes a 300-Watt vacuum tube amplifier alongside a 600-Watt solid-state amplifier. The vacuum tube section powers mid and upper drivers using eight KT88 output tubes, four 12AT7 and two 12AX7A signal tubes, while the solid-state amp delivers 600W of dedicated power directly to the bass drivers.

The MC901's valve amp uses the company's patented Unity Coupled Circuit output transformer to deliver its full 300 Watts into almost any speaker regardless of impedance. Similarly, the solid-state amplifier delivers its full 600 Watts into a 2, 4 or 8 Ohm impedance speaker using McIntosh's Autoformer technology. The amplifier sections are designed to work together as best as possible and to ensure that they amplify only their intended frequencies. Also, each section has its separate power supply ensuring that neither affects the performance of the other.

The MC901 features an internal, adjustable crossover with the controls on the top of the unit, allowing you to optimize the performance of both amplifier sections. Relative gain levels for each section can be adjusted from -6dB to +3dB, and a direct feed can also be connected to each, thus bypassing the filters.

A new DualView Watt-meter has two fast-responding mechanical meters stacked above and below each other in a single "McIntosh Blue" window. One is dedicated to the 300-Watt vacuum tube amp and the other to the 600-Watt solid-state amp, each operating independently.

Handcrafted at the McIntosh's Binghamton, New York factory, the MC901 measures 17.5" x 13.25" x 29.5", and weights 170 lbs. With a retail price set at $17,500, authorized dealers will begin shipping the product in December (January 2020 in Europe).
